Kidder County

Birding in one of the top birding destinations
in North America

Make our lodge your basecamp as you experience something many only read about.

The Birds

eBird lists the number of identified species in Kidder County at 291. 'Life list' birds come from birds passing through and birds that come here to nest.

Six species of birds can be found year around in Kidder County.   There are some that are regular winter visitors like the snow buntings, snowy owl and the northern shrike but the bulk of the species can be found here from April through October either nesting here or spending a few days while migrating

The Habitat

Diversity of habitat. This is what makes northern Kidder County so special for birds and birders.

Potholes nestled in the Coteau native prairie are just the beginning.  Pasture and hayland, wetlands from temporary to permanent, lakes from hundreds to over ten thousand acres and small grain croplands offer something for every specie of bird that spend time in Kidder County.

The Lodge

After a long day with binoculars in hand, compare notes, enter a list on eBird or just relax on a prairie evening listening to winnowing snipe and calls of songbirds.

While you can make your visit just a day trip, using our available resources you can see so many birds by  spending a few days here.
